Have you changed your portfolio for the current investment cycle?
Many portfolios in the 2007-2008 market decline have been hemorrhaging badly and are in need of immediate emergency resuscitation!
We can evaluate your portfolio to see how well it meets your investment objectives and risk tolerance based on an independent evaluation. We do side-by-side comparisons to our recommended “Benchmarks” in respective sectors.
We assist clients based on individual financial goals and comfort level with various types of investments to participate in market upsides but protect from downside risk as much as possible. Or, the best alternative investments with little or no market risk.
Diversify Portfolio
Portfolios should be truly diversified based on your investment objectives and risk tolerance, in different sectors to held reduce risk and increase potential gains.
Too often, I see clients who think they are diversified because they have different stocks or different mutual funds. However, our portfolio review often finds the majority of the holdings are in the same sectors which does not provide adequate diversification.
Do Not Chase Past Winners without Looking Forward to the Future
Don't be trapped in your current investment options
Don’t Be Paralyzed by Inaction Praying Losers Will Recover
How long will it take your losing investments to make up for gains you might have in other sectors? It maybe best to realize tax losses, and reposition in sectors with good growth potential instead of just praying for an eventual rebound in out of favor investments.
Seek Lowest Risk with Best Historic Rewards within Each Sector
Coming from a conservative CPA firm background, I have been evaluating historic risk/reward ratios using various techniques for over 25 years. The historical risk is just as or more important to me than the historical returns of an investment. Of course, past performance is no guarantee of future results, but such risk/reward analysis is very important.
Keep Fees Low So They Don’t Eat Up Investment Returns
We offer to share down to earth ideas to take charge of your financial future, which is more effective than:
Mr. Tito – Looking for Lost Stock Values
Mr. Tito…the space tourist who paid the Russians $20 million for a spaceship seat … Is the founder of Wilshire Associates and is creator of the Wilshire 5000 stock index.
Barron’s says, “Mr. Tito has alluded to an infatuation with the celestial regions that began when he was a mere tyke and a slightly inebriated uncle held him by the ankles as he dangled over the railing of the observation deck of the Empire State Building (before they had a rule banning dangling anyone under age 13 from the observation deck).”
Barron’s continues, “Mr. Tito’s spacey compulsion is rooted in a very pragmatic concern. He’s bound and determined to uncover what happened to the $5 trillion in the value of the Wilshire 5000 index that went up in smoke after March 24 of 2000 and figures that the best place to look for it is way up there in outer space. If you owned an index and you woke up one day to discover $5 trillion of it had vanished without a trace, you’d move heaven and earth, too, to find out where it went to, even if it meant spending eight days enclosed in a capsule with two cosmonauts from Minsk.”(Investors cannot directly invest in indices)
I do not believe that you need to take as much market risk as I see when reviewing most new client’s portfolios in order to pursue good long-term growth.
The key to long-term investment returns is not so much hitting the biggest winners in a good market but avoiding the big losses in a falling market. If you suffer a typical bear market loss of 30%, it takes a 43% gain just to break-even again.
